Choices-Discovering the book of Jonah

We all make choices, and our choices affect our destination. In this promo clip Pastor Derrick Mueller from Beamsville First Baptist Church gives us a sneak peak on this new sermon series on the book of Jonah.

Faces of Poverty: Life at the Breaking Point

Reading, Pa. was recently named the poorest city in America, according to recent census figures. Forty-one percent of the city's residents live below the poverty line; good-paying work is scarce as factories and other plants continue to shutter in a flagging economy. Odyssey follows three city residents as they struggle to make ends meet

FIP #2 Christianity and Other Faith Traditions

“You traverse the oceans to gain a single proselyte. Then you heap burdens upon him which he cannot carry and you do not lift a finger to help him.” (Mt. 23:15)
The early church was admonished to move on from talking about the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus and to grow into maturity of life in the Spirit. This call to maturity is a clarion call to new life; to becoming a new creation.

FIP #3 Life in he Spirit

“Those who live as their human nature dictates have their minds controlled by what human nature wants. Those who live as the Spirit directs them, have their minds controlled by what the Spirit wants. To be controlled by human nature results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace.” (Rom. 8: 1-6)

FLott Thought #3 Your Words Lead to Actions

Matt 5: 16 Let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. If we can think it, feel it.... we can do it!

FIP #4 Who We Really Are

“I assure you that unless you become like children, you shall not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.” (Mt. 18:3)

“Those who live as their human nature dictates have their minds controlled by what human nature wants. Those who live as the Spirit directs them, have their minds controlled by what the Spirit wants. To be controlled by human nature results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace.” (Rom. 8: 1-6)

FIP #5 The False and True Self

"O men how long will your hearts be closed; how long will you love what is futile and seek what is false?" (Ps. 4:2)

Transformation Through Education

Antoinne Murphy is serving a 25-year-to-life sentence for homicide at Sing Sing Correctional Facility. Murphy grew up in a middle class home in Flushing, Queens. At 16, he says he headed down the wrong path and began selling drugs. Since his incarceration Murphy has obtained his bachelor's degree through Mercy College, and earned a Master's of Professional Studies from New York Theological Seminary. Through his studies, Murphy has chosen a path in ministry, "I actually found out who I am now," he says. "And it's all about giving back to the community and I know that, prison doesn't define me".

God Has a Plan for You

If you trust God, you should not worry. We get anxious when we want something and it does not come as soon as we would like. Often we take matters in our hands and soon encounter disorder and chaos. Then we immediately start questioning God. Why me Lord?

We must wait on His guidance. If we do not wait on God, everything can become disastrous. He has plans for each of our lives. Sometimes God’s timing may seem delayed, but he is right on time and we must wait on Him.

Reasons to wait on God’s plan:
• God will keep his promises (II Peter 1:4)
• God said to wait (Psalm 27:14)
• God said he will bless those who wait on Him (Isaiah 30:18)

The Bible says, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end,” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Will you trust God’s plan and wait?

FIP #6 The Freedom of Letting Go

“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
(Mk. 10:25)

Sumter Faith Clinic: The Lord Led Us

In October 2011, nurse practitioners Mary Wysochansky and Anna Stinchcum founded and opened the Sumter Faith Clinic — a free clinic to treat the uninsured and underinsured in Americus, Ga., a community Wysochansky says has been particularly hard-hit by the economy. Fueled solely by donations, the facility provides basic health care and spiritual support to Sumter County residents. "The spiritual benefits are wonderful," says patient Regina K. Benson. "They will pray with you. They treat you as a person rather than a number.

FIP #7 Virtues and Non-Virtues

"Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." (Jn. 3:5-6)

FIP #9 Faith, Hope and Charity

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? (Mt. 6:26)
"Truly I say unto you, as you did it to one of these the least of my brothers, you did it to me." (Mt. 25:40)

FIP # 8 Immersing Yourself in Reality

"Don't you know and understand yet? Are your minds so dull? You have eyes but see not; ears but hear not."
(Mk. 8: 17-18)

FIP #10 Transgressions and Forgiveness

"Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow..." (Is. 1:18)

FIP #11 The Power of Transformation

“The good thief turned to Jesus and said: ‘Lord; remember me when you come into your kingdom.’" And Jesus answered, "This day you shall be with me in paradise." (Lk.23:42)
