In this video, country artist Jackson Michelson shares his journey from playing music in church to becoming a successful country musician. He emphasizes his aversion to labeling art, appreciating artists who embrace diverse styles. Michelson's musical roots are in church, but his career took an unexpected turn when he started writing love songs for his wife. After recording these songs in a Vancouver studio, he received unexpected feedback: people loved his "country music," a genre he hadn't intentionally pursued. Local country radio stations picked up his songs, leading to a rapid rise in popularity with extensive touring and airplay, including on Sirius XM's The Highway. Despite his growing fame, Michelson remains true to his roots as a storyteller, writing about personal experiences and other people's lives. He reflects on the intersection of secular and sacred music, expressing his belief in the power of storytelling in both contexts. For Michelson, leading people through stories and worship is a unified experience, whether he's singing about life or leading worship. He embraces the idea of being in the world but not of it, and finds joy in singing to the "King of Kings," illustrating his seamless transition between country music and worship.
