A well-known Christian radio DJ is recovering in the hospital after a frightening bicycle accident left her with multiple broken bones requiring surgery.
Candice Grey is the midday host on weekdays for The JOY FM, a contemporary Christian radio network heard on stations across five southern states – most of them in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. On Saturday, she and her husband and children were enjoying a leisurely bike ride to the library when her e-bike hit a crack in the sidewalk, sending Grey tumbling over the handlebars and onto her chin.
An ambulance rushed her to the hospital, where doctors discovered she had a broken jaw on both sides, a fractured chin, a cracked ear canal, and a broken shoulder, according to JOY FM’s Instagram page. She is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday.
The network has shared updates on social media – and asked listeners to continue praying.
“Please keep the prayers coming,” the network said.
Carmen Brown, a DJ on the network’s morning show, provided listeners with an update on Tuesday, saying she had visited Grey.
“We were able to pray for her before they took her for more scans. Just so incredibly grateful her brain is absolutely unharmed! PRAISE Jesus!!! She’s in good spirits. Of course, we’re all a little teary right now. We hate seeing her like this. But, she has been so overwhelmed by the love and prayers,” Brown wrote. “She absolutely feels them!
“I’ve been singing this song in my head for two days now, thinking and praying over her,” Brown wrote, referencing Terrian’s Testimony, featuring CeCe Winans. “I’m believing (in advance) that this will be a song she’ll be singing from the rooftops when we get on the other side of this. It’s going to be a long road, and certainly no platitudes here. Truly trusting and believing God for 100% healing. As I said on the show this morning, given what she does for a living, this one feels especially personal. Candice feels this. It feels spiritual. However, the enemy will NOT have this. She will be a living, breathing, walking testimony.”
Thursday’s surgery is expected to repair her jaw.
Grey herself also shared a message of gratitude.
“I’m so grateful for the many people who have showed up and thought through all the ways to make me comfortable and feel so loved,” Grey wrote.
JOY FM fans can send Grey a note of encouragement on the network’s website, TheJOYFM.com.
